Clarisse Ira Banaag, councilor-elect for Events Management under the College Student Council – School of Business and Accountancy (CSC-SBA), officially withdrew from her position on May 26, before the start of her term.

According to the Holy Angel University Student Government Commission on Elections (HAUSG COMELEC), Banaag submitted her formal withdrawal on May 26, which was officially received and acknowledged on May 27. 

Governor-elect Harvey Sanchez confirmed that Yssa Lorrine Timbol, originally elected as a councilor vying for the community extension services role, will be reassigned to fill Events Management. A new appointee will be selected for the now-vacant position in Community Extension Services, in accordance with Section 5, Article IV of the HAU Student Government Constitution.

Although eager and passionate about serving the student body, Banaag shared in an interview the personal reasons behind her decision, citing self-doubt and a lack of experience as major factors.

“Na-feel ko po na I am not that deserving po in this position… I felt lost and very scared habang nag p-plan kami, like na realize ko na, ‘Ah, eto na ‘yon. Andito na talaga ako,” she said.

While Banaag initially overcame her fears and felt confident during the post-campaign, the reality of the role’s weight became more apparent as time passed. Despite stepping down, Banaag continued to fulfill her responsibilities during the transition period and even assisted with ongoing event preparations.

When asked what advice she would give to fellow student leaders who may find themselves in the same situation, Banaag emphasized the importance of self-awareness and mental health.

“Take a while to really understand your situation and weigh the pros and cons… Ultimately, choose what will be better for your mental health,” she shared.

Banaag left a message for the incoming councilor for events management.

“Maia-advise ko lang po kay Ate Yssa is to continue being her cheerful and bubbly self, kasi kailangan niya talaga ’yon sa ganitong klaseng role.”

Banaag’s withdrawal and Timbol’s reappointment set the stage for the selection of a new Community Extension Services Councilor, marking the next steps for the CSC-SBA as it enters a new term.
